Why is it that the phone book companies are allowed to leave their tree-killing books outside my door? Their completely unsolicited, danger to the environment should be considered litter. Especially since the majority of us quickly turn them into kindle for the fireplace or use them as a doorstop. And other people end up spending time and energy to take the huge brick books to the recycling shop.
Stop using money and natural resources to make a book that no one uses anymore. And stop leaving your trash on my doorstep! My time is precious and I’m not going to spend it picking up other people’s litter anymore. Even if they disguise it as a book.
Last year I was actually home when one of the yellow dinosaurs was delivered to my house. I told the delivery person that I didn’t want it. He actually said, “That’s ok sir, it’s free!” Like I actually thought I would have to pay for such a thing. Amazing, these people. When I told him I didn’t need or want it, he asked, “But what if you need to call someone and you don’t know the number?” The poor fellow acted hurt when I handed the book back to him, bid him good day, and shut my door tight. Not that it helped much. A different company left their book on my doorstep the following week.
Who makes the decision to keep printing these things? With the accessibility and speed of the internet, people communicate, play games, and get more information than they could ever possibly need – all with just a click of the mouse. I guess I should really be blaming the companies who are still advertising in the yellow dinosaur. Without advertising money, they’ll surely stop printing these atrocities. Soon enough, companies that advertise in the yellow pages will realize they’re been quickly left behind by the competition. The companies smart enough to put their time and money into websites and online advertising will be the death of the yellow dinosaur.
